PostSubject: MR Stormtrooper Comparisons   Wed Jan 05, 2011 11:40 pm

Ok the other day a friend of mine visited with his MR LE trooper lid and we took a few pics of it compared to the trooper lids that i own. While we didnt really take much time or effort to set them for like for like comparison i thought i would share the pics anyway.

First up is my TE2

My T*E hdpe

Next my AP

My latest aquisition, an abs lid, not sure of the make?

All together and with an MR clone thrown in for good measure

That unknown ABS lid looks a lot like the T/MC to me, could this be it?

The clinical look of the MR lets it down for me, I have the LE EFX hero and it has just never looked right in my eyes.
Great seeing your lids Mark, I love the nuances of all the different sculpts.

I'm with Gary on the MR lid's, they do a nice clone but TK's don't really hit the spot.

Hey Mark how about a thread with individual Pic references of different maker Lids?
With front/back & side shot's?
& a list of the tells to accompany each one?

Just a thought scratch

I know the picture is labeled eFX, but this is the MR trooper scan data and their cleaned up digital model. Man... what a shame... just look at that raw scan data!!!

Original scan on the left - revised, cleaned up model on the right.

ME WANTS LEFT!!! Really hope eFX revisits the trooper and scraps the model and goes right back to the raw scan!!!

Found at this site: http://fixate.com/

If eFX ever revisits the Stormtrooper helmet I surely hope they'll go right back to that original scan data and print that and then if mods are needed, to do them on the physical model... but man... I can't imagine why that would be needed. Just look at that helmet scan.

Only reason for digital restoration of such a model would be to go for the symmetrical look, but then there is only one way of doing that - have the computer averaging EVERYTHING. No one side mirrored for both sides or a few tweaks here and there. No, either flip the scan and insert it on top of the regular scan and fuse the two out into an average helmet. Or... maybe that's a unneeded step too many... just take the regular scan and then average it. Should be fairly simple to do and would require little to no modeling.
